Believing that ministry is communicating the Gospel in styles that everyone can understand, Reverend Charlotte Williams speaks within the idioms of our times to share the Good News with all people, even beyond the pulpit.
Reverend Charlotte was licensed to preach the Gospel at Allen Temple Baptist Church by Pastor Emeritus J. Alfred Smith, Sr. and ordained by Senior Pastor J. Alfred Smith, Jr. Her ministry has taken her across the United States and through five countries to preach the Good News, including as teaching pastor for the Expatriate Bible Fellowships of Singapore, Hong Kong and Toronto. Reverend Charlotte has served at Allen Temple in various ministry capacities, as well as at Antioch Baptist Church of San Jose where she served as Minister to Young Adults under the pastorate of Dr. J. Alfred Smith, Jr. At Antioch, Reverend Charlotte served as presiding and preaching pastor of the 6:00pm evening worship service, designed to minister to the young adults and unchurched of the Silicon Valley.
Reverend Charlotte has worked collaboratively and individually on a variety of ministry engaged interdisciplinary projects since she was a teenager, including within several positions at all levels of the Progressive National Baptist Convention. She is a past president of the North American Baptist Youth Fellowship of the Baptist World Alliance.
As Allen Temple’s Minister and Director of Communications and Media, Reverend Charlotte conceived and is responsible for executing Allen Temple’s total communications program consistent with Allen Temple’s vision, ethos and branding, including our Cyber Church, Worship Projection Ministry, print & electronic communications, social networking, public relations and special projects. Reverend Charlotte believes in the power of social and alternative media as spaces for healing and transformation.
Fluent in five languages, Reverend Charlotte holds a Bachelors’ of Business Administration with an emphasis in Management and a Masters of Business Administration in International Business from Trinity University, and a Masters of Christian Leadership with emphasis in Christian Ethics from Fuller Theological Seminary. She is currently a postgraduate student at Fuller preparing for doctoral study. Reverend Charlotte serves as a lecturer at Fuller Theological Seminary Bay Area in the Ethics program. She is a featured author in the book, Trouble the Water: A Christian Resource for the Work of Racial Justice. Released by the Alliance of Baptists, Reverend Charlotte’s chapter, “Doing the Work In The Intersection”, is designed for individuals and congregations that would take seriously the ever-increasing necessity of work toward racial justice while attending to the intersections of our identities and the intersecting nature of oppression, injustice and violence.
Reverend Charlotte enjoyed a 15 year career in international corporate retail, most notably as a senior executive for Duty Free Shoppers (DFS) in Asia, and Sephora Canada, where she served as Country Manager. She also has rich experience in nonprofit communications, including as Director of Communications for Big Brothers Big Sisters Bay Area. She is currently the Senior Director of Communications at Tides Advocacy, a pro-Black 501(c)4 fiscal sponsor with a team of political, legal and financial experts that identifies, connects and fuels movements for social justice and the health of our democracy. Reverend Charlotte is blessed to be the daughter of Sister Bettye J. Williams, Allen Temple’s Worship Leaders Ministry Chairperson.
