August 2025 - National Breastfeeding Month
In August, we celebrate National Breastfeeding Month to support babies and families. This year’s theme — Nourish, Sustain, Thrive — highlights why protecting, promoting, and supporting lactation is important for parents and families.
The U.S. Breastfeeding Committee is excited to announce that the 2025 National Breastfeeding Month (NBM) theme is Forward Together. This year’s theme centers unity, solidarity, and hope, and celebrates the strength and determination of the organizations and advocates committed to advancing policy, systems, and environmental change in the First Food field and improving access to human milk.
2025 Theme: Boots on the Ground; Rooted in Breastfeeding Success, Grounded in Community Support
Black Breastfeeding Week was created in 2014 by a collective of Black leaders from the breastfeeding field and is celebrated annually from August 25-31. The observance was developed as a response to the high Black infant mortality rate, the lack of diversity in the lactation field, and unique cultural barriers among Black women, and shines a light on efforts and initiatives that support breastfeeding among Black families.
